Meet the team

	In my seven years with Wrekin I have worked on some very interesting projects, but working on our civils contract at Walsall’s Manor Hospital has been one of the most demanding. The hospital continues to function all around us, and the requirement to take extra care in everything we do is vital.
	My idea of teamwork is the client and Wrekin working from start to finish in a seamless partnership to deliver the solution. Our Term Construction Contract with Staffordshire County Council Highways exemplifies this teamwork ethic, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. Now in its third year we have added a further positive aspect with a unique recycling plant combining old waste road material with power station ash to give 97% recycled surfacing material for Staffordshire roads.
	At Wrekin we are always working for the next job – we want our clients to be so satisfied, that they will come back....and back, because we do what we say and deliver best value, the complete package, nothing hidden. Working in business development I feel confident of making promises I know will be delivered. We win on quality and by going that extra mile.
	Our Health and Safety policy is led from the top and unlike many companies we have an in-house H&S team that looks after this important area. I have been with the company for 28 years and our experienced approach means that our accident rate is only a fraction of the national construction average. In fact, in the last five years we have reduced our rate by 78% with no reported accidents this year, which is an outstanding performance considering the diverse range of contracts undertaken by the company.
	From first client contact to completion of the project we have high quality specialists in all disciplines. We believe we do things in the ‘right way’. Projects are completed as they were planned, professionally and with total dedication. My colleagues are Wrekin through and through, with great loyalty to the brand, I know this because I have been a member of the team since 1972.

	I was delighted when our team won the Gold Award in the Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards for our Rugeley Bypass contract. Wrekin’s experience was a major factor in successfully completing this complex project in a sensitive environment with high traffic flow. At Wrekin we are encouraged to do things well, in a good positive atmosphere backed by constructive experienced advice from senior management. We are never short of ideas for the right solution.
	Times have changed radically on the UK’s roads since I started working on surfacing over thirty years ago. The need for quality surfacing is of paramount importance. Safety considerations, coping with high traffic flow, environmental requirements, reliable plant and equipment and materials management, means that experienced operatives are essential. Our teams, I believe, are the best in the business, jobs are finished when they should be finished, and to Wrekin standards.
	Taking a construction build project through from greenfield (or brownfield) start to completion is a particularly satisfying experience. It is also enjoyable when working in the spirit of dedication and collaboration within the Wrekin organisation. Utilising our experienced planning and technical skills we work with the client’s initial designs to deliver high quality cost effective building solutions on time. This approach connects with our clients as they keep coming back for more.

	At Wrekin we place a strong emphasis on working as a team; within the company, with our customers and with our suppliers and partners. We strive to deliver quality and to add value, but never lose sight of our customers’ aspirations or budget. I feel very fortunate to have such a highly motivated and skilled team working with me, who always want to move that extra mile to provide the best service possible.
	Working with Wrekin gives me the opportunity to work with a diverse range of highly skilled professionals who strive to provide innovative solutions to the complex problems faced by our clients.
	I like working for Wrekin because they are investing in my education. I also like the fact that it is a family business and that we are all working together as a team and take pride in the project.

	There is a great team spirit at Wrekin Rail. After working in larger companies as a chartered civil engineer, I find this family company a breath of fresh air in its approach to staff and project quality. I am able to utilise all my skills on a wide variety of projects, developing good relationships with clients and at the same time receiving huge support from group services.
	The relaxed style and culture of trust encouraged by Wrekin is really refreshing. It allows the freedom to develop within your role, your skills are recognised and developed to enable the provision of the best service for our clients. The technical support received from other divisions when preparing tenders and submissions is invaluable, there is an amazing reservoir of knowledge and experience on tap within the Wrekin business.
	I joined Wrekin in March 07 because I had worked with Wrekin staff on various contracts and respected the company’s approach and its people. On joining the company I found my opinion to be correct and I can honestly say that these are the best people I have ever worked with. Their commitment to getting the job right is exceptional and the access to top management means I am never short of decisions and support.
	My work as a site agent for Wrekin Rail is diverse, interesting and demanding. I enjoy the fact that It stretches my skills and experience in project and facilities management and it is very satisfying to see the work through to a successful conclusion. Wrekin’s investment in back-up services, from health and safety to technical support, makes a positive impact on day-to-day site activity, allowing us to go that extra mile for our clients.
