Wrekin recognises that its activities have an impact on the environment and that the company has responsibilities to clients, third parties and employees with respect to this. Environmental issues are addressed as an integral part of management processes through the application of an Environmental Management System (EMS) to ISO 14001.

The EMS details the management activities and commitment to control and minimise the environmental impact of their services. It ensures that sustainability is considered during planning, design, procurement and construction of a project. This approach includes:

  • Identifying the environmental impact of all operations
  • Managing the waste generated, reducing the amounts produced, reusing materials and recycling where possible
  • Monitoring and reporting on performance.

Wrekin has identified its significant environmental aspects through system evaluation and review, objectives are set to address specific issues and SMART targets have been set to investigate, control and improve environmental aspects.

In addition to the EMS, Wrekin has adopted a holistic approach to waste reduction encompassing the design, construction and management processes of the company. Recycling has become an integral part of our construction management and it is standard practice within Wrekin to seek opportunities for recycling wherever practical.

In 2001 Wrekin was a finalist on the Quality in Construction Awards for Environmental Achievement and in 2004 received the top environmental award, in partnership with Warwickshire County Council, from the Institution of Civil Engineers in connection with our household waste project at Burton Farm near Statford Upon Avon.
